Lady parts game is NOT lady friendly

In leiu of a screen grab, I’ve posted this picture of a delicious fish taco. Oh yes, two can play this game.

As a girl gamer, I know that there is a certain amount of misogyny in our current gaming culture, but what I don’t know - is this supposed to be comedy or criticism?

Cunt is a game published by Newgrounds (of Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers) and co-created by Edmund McMillen (who participated in the early development of Braid).

You play by piloting a rather diminutive dick around a monstrous Méliès-esque vagina, shooting your (pay)load at the pustules forming along the surface before they explode. And yes, it is every bit as nasty as it sounds. Don’t get to them in time, and a much harder to kill venereal disease will gravitate toward your, ahem, “ship,” becoming absorbed/attached and increasing your infection meter - there are powerups, including steroids, viagra and antibiotics, but let your bait and tackle go too long without a stiff shot of penicillin, and you die of the assortment of nasty diseases you’ve battled.

Other than being completely, totally and utterly offensive, Cunt is very foward thinking in its exploration of different styling options for the thouroughly modern woman. But everything else is completely backwards, reinforcing the stereotype of gamers as sexually-frustrated-white-male-living-in-parent’s-basement and exposing, no matter how unintentional, a very real undercurrent of sexism in our current gaming.

Even if it is a joke, it isn’t very funny.
